Honesty Has Been So Diminished in Value
Honesty Has Been So Diminished in Value
The extent to which an average Nigerian has become in dishonesty makes us celebrate a few among us, who have demonstrated a sense of honesty in their own lives. Auwal’s name has been on social media outlets celebrating, awarding, gifting him and whatever, because he saw the money that didn’t belong to him and returned it to its rightful owner.
Indeed, the sense of honesty shown by Auwal is a source of great encouragement and inspiration for all. But the fact that it has also exposed the true attitude of an average Nigerian is also evident—dishonest in all our dealings. Because many people consider Auwal a person rare to find.
This is not what Nigeria or Nigerians used to be. It’s common to find a thousand of Auwals in China, for example. They are not awarded or celebrated. They are only thanked mostly by the rightful owners.
Conclusively, the point must worthy of note is that it’s your responsibility and mine to be honest. Once you and I honest, our country will thrive. May God bless Auwal and give us many more of Auwal’s kinds.
